Echo Board Review and Certification

    • 2012 Exam:
      • Eligibility for Fellows: Any fellow can take the exam (ASCeXAM). Passing the exam confers status of Testamur. Once Fellowship complete, to be granted Certification by the NBE, you must provide letter from Preceptor (Dr Nixon) providing details of echo training to achieve and evidence of having passed ABIM. See NBE Website for full details of requirements.
      • Can be certified in 1) just TTE, 2) TTE plus TEE, 3) TTE puls Stress Echo, or 4) Comprehensive (TTE, Stress Echo and TEE). Numbers required are:
        • TTE: 150 performed, plus additional 150 interpretations for total of 300 interpretations
        • Stress Echo: 100 cases
        • TEE: 50 cases
      • Application: Deadline - Feb 17, 2012
      • Cost: $995
      • Exam Date: Monday July 23, 2012

Cardiac CT Training and Certification

    • 2012 Exam:
      • Eligibility for Fellows: Must have completed level 2 training and be able to provide evidence of such training - such as course certificate. Passing the exam while in Fellowship confers status of Testamur. Proof of ABIM Certification in Cardiovascular Disease required for CBCCT Certification.
      • Application: Open March 15, 2012 - click on above link for details
      • Cost for Fellows: $725 until May 1, then $925 until June 15, 2012
      • Exam Dates: Sept 19 or Sept 20, 2012

Nuclear Cardiology Training and Certification

  • 2nd Year Fellows:
    • Obtain training manual and CD-ROM with training modules early in 2nd year
    • Must co-ordinate Nuclear-Cath Correlation Conference series (30 cases to be presented over the course of the year - 6 cases per fellow). Patients need to have had both nuclear stress test and coronary angiography. Need to make sure Dr Kontos and Dr Fratkin have availability on chosen dates, as well as all 2nd Fellows. Dr Kontos can give you information on requirements for case presentations.
    • Must complete training in Radiopharmaceutical handling - see Diane Cowling for setting this up. Need 10 supervision injections after initial training in handling
    • Arrange for computer processing station training with Wendy Bullock
    • Complete radiation safety test and the quiz on nuclear cardiology physics from the CD-ROM modules
    • Once requirements met at the end of 2nd year, obtain Preceptor Letter from Dr Melvin Fratkin. This letter is required in order to apply for the nuclear boards - application deadline usually near the end of July in your 3rd year, with the actual exam usually in December of your 3rd year.

        • Must have completed level 2 training and be able to provide letter from Preceptor (Dr Fratkin) - should be able to get this by end of 2nd year (see above for details of training requirements in nuclear cardiology. Passing the exam while in Fellowship confers status of Testamur. Proof of ABIM Certification in Cardiovascular Disease required for CBNC Certification.
